Final Reflection for Web 2.0

My favorite project/discovery was the social bookmarking! I absolutely love Delicious.com. I use it all of the time now that I know about it. I am constantly adding links and new web pages. It would have been extremely helpful to know about this website while student teaching and even in undergrad while writing up all of the unit plans we had to do! So that project was definitely my favorite and definitely something that I will always use in and out of the classroom.
I will also continue using my blog and my wiki page to make web quests. I like the idea of using the blog to keep students updated and on track with my personal class. As for the web quests (depending on the demographic of my students) I love having students do projects that show their understanding of the unit we are completing. So the web quest makes it much easier to assign these types of assignments.
This course should be a requirement for all education undergrads because the information you gain from this class would help them tremendously during their student teaching placements.
I have always agreed that technology in the classroom is important, but I never had any knowledge of how to start or make my own blog, social bookmarks, wiki and web quests. So this class has been extremely important and if I ever find a job in the teaching world, I will definitely implement these technologies into my classroom.
As for improvements of the course, I enjoyed the reading and the videos. The projects were educational and relevant. I really don’t see where the course can be improved upon besides making it a requirement instead of option to take this course. On second thought maybe getting a midpoint grade on the discussions would be extremely helpful.
If there was another course offered like this one, then yes I would definitely sign up to take it. This is a course every teacher should take and learn from. This course is extremely more useful than the out of date CSC (I think this is what the course was) computer course they make you take as an undergrad!

Webliographies of the Korean War

1) Korean War National Museum http://www.theforgottenvictory.org/
This website is great for students researching the Korean War. It is the national museum, so a virtual field trip for the class.
I give this website a 4 out of 5. It has reliable, accurate and up to date information on the Korean War.

2) Examining the Korean War http://mcel.pacificu.edu/as/students/stanley/home.html
This is a so so website. This information is good but the layout of the web page is quite boring. This website does offer some document oral histories, which could come in handy for a research paper.

I give this website a 2 out of 5. Good information but little effort was put into the website appearance, making for a boring visit. I don't believe it would hold the attention of the less devoted learners.

3) Korean War Educator http://www.koreanwar-educator.org/home.htm
This website for be good for a project where students are encouraged to reach out to actual men and women that fought or played a role in the Korean War. Not a website offering much for a historical view point but it does offer memoirs of those who served which can sometimes provide a better picture of what the war was like.
I give this website a 3 out of 5. This is a good website if used/needed for the before mentioned.

4) The Korean War http://www.korean-war.com/
This website at first glance looks like a waste of time. The homepage all the flags of the two opposing forces in the Korean War. But with further investigation you find that each link brings you to the following; time lines, hard facts of the war, and then an assortment of links to other pages that give you much more information.
I give this website a 4 out of 5. This is a good website for quick facts and finding other information that I haven't seen on other sites.

5) The Korean War, June 1950 - July 1953 http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/events/kowar/kowar.htm
This website I would use for a more advanced group of students. It is a lot of information clumped into one big article and will require students with better attention spans to get through. However the information is well presented and accurate. After the article there are links to other war time information, including: Inchon Invasion, Hungnam Evacuation, etc.
I give this website a 3 out of 5. Again you would need a higher group of students to have this web page be of any meaning.

6) Korean War 1950-1953 http://www.au.af.mil/au/aul/bibs/korea/korw.htm
This website by appearance is terrible, but the content is pretty well presented. This web page is a bibliography of books and other resources that can be used on any of the 15 bullets/areas of the war.  This website would probably come in more handy for a college student.
I give this website a 3 out of 5. Again the appearance is horrific but the resources provided would be a huge help for anyone writing a paper on the Korean War.

7) Invasion and Counterinvasion 1950-1953 http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/322419/Korean-War/229854/Invasion-and-counterinvasion-1950-1953
Looking at the small article on this page you would think this website to be just the opposite of a encyclopedia. But then you look to the left and there are 20 plus videos on the Korean War! Bingo! Perfect if you will be out one day and need something for the sub to do.
I give this website a 4.5 out of 5. What kid doesn't love a video?

8) The Forgotten War...Korea http://home.earthlink.net/~woll/Bills-Page.htm
This website is set up very orderly and would make for a great web search. The material is accurate and is extremely informational. It as time lines and battle information that other websites leave out.
I give this website a 4.5 out of 5. It is a complete picture of the war, set up in a fashionable manner that is easy to navigate.

9) The Korean War http://www.rt66.com/~korteng/SmallArms/history.htm
This is the first website I found to offer maps! It has wonderful (although sad) pictures of the war. It also has time lines and memoirs and a whole bunch of links so if you can't find what you need from this website (highly unlikely) then you can go to other websites.
I give this website a 5 out of 5. Although the colors aren't what I would have picked, this website is perfect for a 8th grader or higher.

10)Korean War http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Korean_War
This website is definitely has a great deal of information. Would definitely come in handy while writing a research paper, not only for the amount of information on the site but also for the documentary/videos and book recommendations it makes. I think it would be a great website for a U.S. history class.
I give this website a 4 out of 5. It would be extremely helpful in a research paper!
